Democrats are still beside themselves with frustration over the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing. Judge Amy Coney Barrett is to all appearances, the polar opposite of the notorious RGB. She clerked for Antonin Scalia near the end of the Clinton years. Her legal philosophy emphasizes “strict constructionism” or “originalism” above all.
So over the weekend, HBO’s John Oliver fumed at Barrett’s ascension to the high court. He called it a “[expletive] tragedy” and a “dark week” for America:
We’re at the end of a generational battle and the heartbreaking thing is — we lost. It’s going to hurt for a long time for a lot of people.
